About us

Fischerwirt con amore is an Italian-Mediterranean restaurant at the Kreuzbergl pond in Klagenfurt, Austria. The Fischerwirt has been part of the Kreuzbergl for many years – about three years ago we took over the location as con amore and gave it a Mediterranean direction: Neapolitan pizza, fresh fish, homemade pasta and seasonal specialties, quietly located at the pond, with parking right at the door and an atmosphere that cannot be staged.

An address that stays

The Kreuzbergl in the west of Klagenfurt is a quiet recreational area – joggers, walkers, families. The Kreuzbergl pond is right at our door. We do not have a central square or a pedestrian zone. Instead, we have what most city-centre restaurants do not: quiet surroundings, greenery, a shady terrace directly at the water, and parking that actually exists.

The Kreuzbergl has always been a place to celebrate, eat and talk. Today families come on Sundays, lunch guests during the week, couples in the evenings. The rhythm of the restaurant follows the rhythm of its guests.

What we cook – and how

The kitchen of Fischerwirt con amore is Italian, artisanal and seasonal.

Neapolitan pizza. Our dough is prepared from fine Tipo-00 flour with 48 to 72 hours of resting time – not an exaggeration, but the prerequisite for flavour. In the wood-fired stone oven at around 480–485 °C, the pizza bakes in 60 to 90 seconds: the crust (Cornicione) gets colour and stays airy inside. Fior di Latte instead of industrial mozzarella. San Marzano tomatoes as a base. Good olive oil to finish. Pizza is also available to take away.

Fresh fish. Depending on season and availability: Carinthian char, sea bass (Branzino), mussels, calamari – prepared Mediterranean style, with regional accents such as Carinthian pumpkin seed oil.

Homemade pasta. From spaghetti carbonara (authentic – with guanciale, Pecorino and egg yolk) to changing tagliatelle al ragù specials. Pasta needs good ingredients, good water and patience.

Seasonal menu. Every month we offer a seasonal menu built around the best current ingredients – a reason to come back.

The lunch menu

Monday to Friday: a lunch menu for €13.50 – pasta or pizza of the day with a small salad. Pre-order by phone if you are short on time. Parking right in front.

con amore – what it means

“con amore” is more than a name for us. It means care in cooking, real time for the dough, personal attention to guests, and minding the small details. We are not a fine-dining restaurant and do not want to be. We are a place to arrive, eat well and want to return to.
