Fish & Seafood in Klagenfurt
The name says it all: at Fischerwirt con amore fish is a real mainstay, not a side note. Italian at heart, served without fuss – fish to go out for whenever you feel like it, not just for the big occasion.
What we stand for
Eating fish in Klagenfurt – no occasion required
Fish in Klagenfurt quickly turns into something formal: a table by the water, a bill that feels like a birthday gift, a service that has you sitting bolt upright. Lovely, but not for an ordinary Thursday. That's exactly the gap we fill.
With us fish is Italian and made for everyday. You come in jeans, order spaghetti alle vongole or grilled calamari, have a glass of white alongside – and leave full and with a clear conscience. No five-course obligation, no tweezer cuisine, no fine-dining star you press a shirt for. Fresh fish, honestly cooked, at a price that doesn't rule out a second visit.
We're not a classic Adriatic spot either, the kind that only knows grilled fish off the platter. Here the fish cooking sits next to pizza, pasta and antipasti – part of a whole Italian menu, not the only theme. If you love fish, you're in the right place. If you don't, you'll still find something.
All year round
Fish classics – always on the menu
From spaghetti alle vongole to whole fish in a salt crust, filleted at your table.

Whole fish in a salt crust from the oven – filleted at the table, price according to daily catch
What lands on your table
A few dishes, in a little more detail
Spaghetti alle vongole. The classic any fish kitchen is measured by: clams, garlic, olive oil, a splash of white wine, fresh parsley – and nothing else getting in the way. The pasta finishes in the clam broth, so every forkful tastes of the sea, not of sauce. If you're after eating fish in Klagenfurt and don't know where to start: here.
Calamari alla griglia. Not drowned in batter but grilled – with lemon oil, garlic and fried potatoes. That keeps the squid tender rather than rubbery and lets its own flavour come through. If you like it crisp, there are calamari fritti; stuffed with cheese and ham they come as calamari ripieni.
Whole fish in a salt crust. Our little tableside theatre: a whole fish – often sea bass (branzino), depending on the daily catch – baked in the oven under a salt crust that keeps it juicy, then filleted in front of you at the table. The price follows the fish of the day, which is why it isn't fixed on the menu – just ask us what's in.
Carpaccio di pesce misto. For everyone who likes it raw: wafer-thin fish carpaccio of tuna, swordfish, octopus and anchovies, with olive oil and lemon. Light, fresh, a good opener for two to share.
Gamberi. Prawns „alla mamma Silvia" – from a family recipe, like so much here. A plate that shows Italian fish cooking doesn't have to be complicated to be good.
Seafood & more
Seafood – Italian, and all year round
When it comes to seafood in Klagenfurt, we keep it Italian: grilled calamari with lemon oil, spaghetti alle vongole, gamberi and a mixed fish carpaccio with tuna, swordfish and octopus are on the menu as classics all year. Whole fish comes in a salt crust on request, filleted at your table.
Alongside come the sides you'd expect from a good Italian kitchen – fried potatoes, salads, vegetables – and a fitting white by the glass. We don't make a spectacle of it: good produce, cleanly cooked, in portions that fill you up. Exactly what you want midweek or at the weekend, without much planning.
Seasonal, not static
What's fresh goes on the menu
Our seasonal menu changes monthly – depending on the season you'll find sea bass, Carinthian char, mussels, trout or seafood salads on it. The classics stay.
On Funky Fish Friday the offer changes depending on what our suppliers bring in fresh – and that's allowed to vary, in the best sense. Instead of running through a rigid list, we go by the daily catch: whatever is good and fresh ends up on the plate, the rest waits for the next delivery. So it's worth a look at the current menu – and a question to the service about what's especially good today.
That keeps the fish cooking alive: a core repertoire you can rely on, and next to it whatever the season happens to give. It's exactly that mix that makes the difference between „always the same" and „let's see what's on today".
For mixed groups
Pizza and fish under one roof
Some want fish, others Neapolitan pizza from the wood-fired stone oven – here nobody has to choose. Plus pasta, antipasti and dolci. For mixed groups, where not everyone eats fish, that's the whole appeal: one orders branzino, another a pizza, the kid a pasta – and everyone's happy at the same table.
That's exactly why fish works here for Sunday lunch with the family too, and at its best outside in summer on the terrace at the Kreuzbergl pond.
